About Us
Weekly class is 1 hour long, usually consisting of 30 mins of drama games, and 30 mins of learning poems/passage of prose/scenes. Students will be learning to read aloud, so bringing reading books from home to drama is encouraged to easily gauge their reading ability. We have dress-up, memory games and arts & crafts to keep children engaged while others work 1-1 with one of our teachers. This allows the children to build friendships and play free from instruction to boost their creativity and imagination, which are fundamental skills in drama. During the lead-up to exams/feis, 1-1 time to recite pieces will be increased to ensure all students are well prepared.
We have entered Newry Musical Feis for the past three years now, which has been extremely enjoyable with some students winning medals for their performances. We look forward to entering this competition again this year, so our amazing students have a chance at showcasing their talents. Feis entries are usually around early February, which gives students time to prepare for the Feis around March/April time. We also hope to enter our students into other festivals this year, namely Banbridge in November.
New Era Academy is our chosen exam board when entering students for examinations. They are one of the leading regulated boards in the UK. NEA is an innovative examinations board, offering diverse and varied disciplines through well-structured syllabi. Learners can obtain UCAS Tariff points at level 3, enhancing their chances of University or Higher Education entrance. They provide a non-discriminatory policy with regard to education, ability, culture and background, which is very in line with our own principles here at Hollywood Stars. They provide experienced examiners who understand exams can be scary for some learners, but have always marked positively, and all students have enjoyed their examination experience/s. Here at Hollywood Stars, we have had a 100% pass rate in exams, with 93% of these being distinctions. Exams are carried out in June at the end of each academic year, and we currently enter students for Speech and Drama and Public Speaking exams.
